Our unique concept

is what makes us so special

You have probably studied a language but can't really use it. You know when to use Present Perfect and the grammar behind conditionals. But chances are, you don't feel confident when you speak and you might even be afraid because you never really got to practice what you learned. This is where Authentic Learning Berlin comes in.

We offer a new concept in language instruction: learning and practicing a new language in a real-life, authentic setting. To do this, we combine the Dogme,  authentic learning and communicative approach. We believe this is how people learn best. Our learning philosophy is based on the following tenants.

Learning is co-constructed through the interaction between the learners, the instructor and guest collaborators.

Conversation is central and gives our learners the chance to analyze, understand, practice and internalize the language.

Through different tasks, language learning is a process where language emerges.

Activities must involve real-world problems.

Learners should have fun and enjoy the process.

Learners are encouraged to propose, select, create and share content.

Learners are empowered to choose and direct their own learning.

Learners have a voice and their needs, interests and expectations guide the curriculum.

Lessons are directed by the learners, not the trainers.

The instructor's role is to optimize language learning, the environment, identify the potential to learn and to direct attention to any learning opportunity.

The instructor motivates learners to decide the curriculum's content and involves them in material creation and selection.

Instructors take learner goals/needs/interests and transform them into a comprehensive & effective curriculum with relatable sessions.

Through a friendly and open environment, learners are not afraid to use to the language or to make mistakes.

The interaction between learners & instructors and other members of the community is highly encouraged and considered key to language learning.

The community that surrounds our school provides with endless learning opportunities and invaluable resources.

In the relaxed environment that we are able to create through our hands-on activities, speaking a new language is no longer a stressful task, but rather a highly conversational and enjoyable activity.
