Frequently Asked Questions

Are the trainers native speakers?

We work with incredible trainers, and where they come from is not relevant as long as they can do their job meeting the highest standards and can contribute to our community. Some are native speakers, some aren't. But don't worry! Our trainers are extremely qualified and experienced to work with you. If they speak a different native language, that's a lovely bonus! You're welcome!

Why do you do workshops?

We make workshops an integral part of our linguistic experiences for four main reasons: 1. Use the language in real life settings. Workshops make the language come alive. They encourage you to use it in the real world and to practice it in different contexts. 2. Make you more confident. If you already used the language in X activity with your trainer, workshop leader and maybe fellow participants, you KNOW you can do it in the real world. You know you've got this. 3. Keep you motivated and accountable. Since you are involved in the selection process, workshops keep you engaged, interested and they also make you responsible for your own learning. Win win situation! 4. Different speakers. If you can only understand your trainer, you're screwed. Our workshop leaders come from different parts of the world, they have different accents and dialects. This helps you feel comfortable and get used to the different ways people speak.

Why do you say "immersive linguistic experience" instead of language course?

That's a really good question. When people hear "language course" the idea that comes to mind is: a teacher speaking, students sitting taking notes and listening, a textbook, grammar worksheets and 90 minutes filled with passive learning. That's not what we do. We use that term "immersive linguistic experience" because we really do offer an experience. When you join us, you get to learn and improve the language through fieldtrips, workshops, hands-on activities, picnics, group get-togethers etc. We felt that saying we offer "language courses" does not capture what we offer and what makes us special.

I need a certain score on a language test. Will your experiences help me?

Yes and no. As a participant in our immersive linguistic experiences, you will learn German or English, widen your vocabulary, improve fluency and speak more confidently. However, we don't provide specific training for tests. We don't teach for a test score. Our sessions' format doesn't allow for preparation for an official examination. If that's what your goal is, we highly recommend you book a course designed for it elsewhere and maybe consider joining us as a complement in your preparation.

I want to do the same workshops as my friend did. Can you guarantee that?

Nope. You aren't the same as your friend, therefore every experience is different and meets the needs of those participants. You will work with your trainer and fellow participants to determine the workshops and activities you will have during your experience. It is all personalized.

How many workshops will my experience have?

That's hard to say because it depends on you and we don't know you yet. We strive to give you the linguistic experience that will help you reach your goals and that you will enjoy. The number and frequency of the workshops depends on you and your trainer. For our 12 week experiences, we typically have between 5 -7 workshops. Your trainer will guide you and help you determine how many workshops you need, which ones will benefit you the most and when the best time for them is.

I can do a workshop anywhere. Why would I do it as part of your immersive linguistic experiences?

We don't do workshops for the sake of doing workshops. We do workshops because they enrich and further your language skills. Being part of our linguistic experiences gives you the chance the do workshops that align with the linguistic objectives you want to reach, and are always supported by your trainer. Your trainer will prepare you to get the most out of the workshop by teaching you any structures or vocabulary you might need and then accompany you during the workshop. The goal is always the language, the workshops help you get there.

Why are the experiences so long?

Language learning and building confidence doesn't happen over night. It takes time. We believe that the time frame we have selected supports you reaching your goals and lets you make meaningful connections with your trainer or fellow participants. If you are looking for a shorter, longer, more intensive experience, we've got your back. For more flexibility, you can work with our trainers on a private basis. Read more about that here.

What do you mean by workshops and hands-on activities?

A workshop is an activity that you do as part of an experience that encourages you to practice to learn German or learn English in a real setting. These can be led by an expert in the topic, but you are always with your trainer. Examples can be: A workshop with a comedian to learn to be funny in the language you are learning. A hands-on activity to make pasta from scratch or an outing to a bar to practice small talk.

What types of workshops do you have?

We work with creatives all around Berlin to bring you a wide array of workshops and activities to choose from. Currently, there are over 60 options for you to pick from. Our workshops range from poetry, storytelling, improvisation, acting, comedy to programming, cooking and yoga. We categorise them into regular and premium workhops.

  1. Regular workshops are included in the price of the experiences.
  2. Premium workhops have an additional cost because the materials involved have a higher price. Working with cement, doing linolium print or doing pottery are examples of premium workshops.

I would like to lead a workshop. What do I do?

Great! Thanks so much for considering us to share your talents. You can fill this form out and we will be in touch.

How has COVID changed learning with you?

That's a really good question. Although we used to offer online learning before COVID, we are now only offering flipped/blended learning. The blended part means that there are sessions online and some (mainly the workshops or hands-on activities) that happen face to face, but only when we can make sure that all the safety features can be in place and preferably in open spaces. The flipped part means that the trainer will send you some material so that you can work on it on your own before the session and then meet to dive deep and practice.

Do you also do workshops online?

Yes, but not all of them. We have a selection of workshops that can be done online while maintainig our high-quality standards.
