Writing a lyric poem based on our lives

This week, we had the pleasure of having the talented author Madvhi Ramani lead an oral and written storytelling workshop. We created monsters, wrote outrageous postcards and even wrote a lyric poem based on our lives. This was very fun because it showed us how we can be creative and write something beautiful in 15 min.

Here are two of them:

I am in front of a pool.

I feel the sun on my shoulders and I smell the chlorine.

It is an open kitchen without windows.

We can see the kitchen in each room of our home.

The kitchen smells like rice and beans and also clean.

I am in front of a pool.

I feel the sun on my shoulders and I smell the chlorine.

You were so angry when we swam and I tried to touch you with my arm.

I am in front of a pool.

I feel the sun on my shoulders and I smell the chlorine.

We swam together everyday. We spoke about swimming, school and a lot of the time we fight.

I am in front of a pool.

I feel the sun on my shoulders and I smell the chlorine.

I want to know what will happen tomorrow at school.

I could hear my mom singing in Spanish. My hair is frizzy and untamed.

It is next to the bathroom.

It smells like garlic, onion and tomato being fried to make soup.

I could hear my mom singing in Spanish. My hair is frizzy and untamed.

You are a year older than I am. I feel cool when I'm with you.

We like to copy music videos. We pretend we are superstars.

I could hear my mom singing in Spanish. My hair is frizzy and untamed.

I am wearing my school uniform.

It's a checkered skirt with a shirt and a navy vest.

I hate my uniform. The skirt limits me.

I could hear my mom singing in Spanish. My hair is frizzy and untamed.

I want to know, will I ever marry the Backstreet Boys?
